Home Groups - FAQs

FAQ’s

What is a Home Group?
Most of our Small Groups are made up of 10 to 14 people who want to grow spiritually and connect with others at Central. Groups meet once a week on either Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays in homes throughout Bryan and College Station. Each group is simply a group of people who are looking for a way to become more like Christ. Life change happens in the context of relationships and there's no better place to meet people who really want to live life to the fullest.

Do I have to be a member of Central Baptist Church to join a Small Group?

No. Membership is required only to lead or host a group.

Do you have age-specific Home Groups?

Most of our Home Groups are intergenerational which means they are composed of adults of all ages and any marital status.  This encourages groups to function as family units where true discipleship and mentoring can take place.  Groups who work as a family unit can gain understanding from each person’s experiences and perspectives. This has been one of the most exciting aspects of Home Groups as members have the opportunity to connect with others of all seasons of life. We also have a few groups for men or women.

How long does a typical Small Group stay together?

Our groups are ongoing. That is, they don't do a particular study and then disband. Groups are always open to new members. All groups take a break for a few weeks during the Christmas holidays and meet once a month during the summer.

What happens at a Small Group meeting?

Every group is different but there are some common denominators. Most groups have a time for just hanging out, talking about the week and what's going on in life. The central component is a study of something very relevant to the members of the group. It may be the study of the Book of Romans or the Gospel of John or it might be a topical study on prayer. Our groups are designed to encourage discussion and engage each person in the process of the application of God's Truth. Then our groups have an opportunity to pray for each other in the group.

Is there childcare available?

Every group handles childcare in its own way. Some of the groups go in together and make arrangements for a baby sitter or take turns watching the children. Other groups require each participant to make their own arrangements. Be sure to indicate your childcare needs when you sign up.

What if I don't like the first group I try?

We encourage people to give the group you try a couple visits. Anytime you're trying something new, it may need to grow on you. In addition, it may take a couple of times to begin to feel like you're in the right place. But at the same time, we want you to find a group that fits you! So don't be afraid to try another group or contact Rebecca Cox with more specific group information.

Can I serve as a host or leader of a group?

We love it when people are interested in leading or hosting a Home Group. Contact Rebecca Cox at rcox@cbcbryan.org or 776-9977 for more information.
